To provide our customers with ultra-pure magnesium oxide (MgO) products, that benefit innovation rooted in responsible and environmentally friendly technologies. ECO2 Magnesia is committed to reducing the environmental impact of industrial processes while ensuring exceptional product quality.
Our mission is simple: eliminate mining waste, limit the industry's carbon footprint, and provide high-quality materials while preserving the environment.
Through innovation and a deep commitment to the circular economy, ECO2 Magnesia is a leader in the ecological transformation of industrial minerals, redefining what it means to decarbonize supply chains.
ECO2 Magnesia is a company dedicated to developing and commercializing public-private partnerships (PPP), that demonstrate the values of entrepreneurship, environment stewardship and the responsible use of natural resources.
The story of ECO2 Magnesia - the world's first producer of eco-responsible ultra-pure MgO - is a story of industrial innovation and non-conventional thinking, initiated by the scientific discoveries of a group of experts from the Institut national de la recherche scientifique Centre Eau Terre Environnement (INRS-ÉTÉ), the collaboration of industrial partners SIGMA Devtech and the investment commitment of ECO2 Magnesia. Throughout, the Government of Quebec has been a key partner, supporting the vision of this collaboration since its inception.
Here is a brief summary of this pioneering Quebec company:
MgO is a key element in many industrial sectors, including metallurgy, refractories, construction, plastics, and even pharmaceuticals.
However, traditional MgO production is extremely energy-intensive and generates a significant carbon footprint.
The creation of ECO2 Magnesia is based on a desire to meet a triple challenge:
In collaboration with INRS-ETE, ECO2 Magnesia has spent more than a decade developing an innovative technology based on a low-carbon emission process, which does not use any toxic or chemical agents. The process transforms mine tailings, containing high concentration of magnesium, while capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) and H2O in a patented closed loop process.
ECO2 Magnesia has not only produced MgO of exceptional purity, it has made sustainability its calling card. By capturing and then recycling CO2 emitted during the production process, the company plays a critical role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to the fight against climate change.
ECO2 Magnesia's business model is based on a circular and sustainable approach. The company prioritizes the use of renewable energy sources such as hydroelectricity, to further minimize its carbon footprint.
Thanks to its high purity, ECO2’s revolutionary technology and its environmentally responsible attributes has attracted the attention of industry leaders and investors. The company has established itself as a world leader in the production of ultra-high-purity, environmentally friendly MgO, with production facilities designed to meet the growing demand for greener minerals.
International recognition of ECO2 Magnesia has grown as industrial sectors have sought to reduce their carbon footprint and align with global environmental goals.
Today, ECO2 Magnesia is a model of success in sustainable industrial production. The company continues to innovate to optimize its processes, while strengthening its role in energy transition and the reduction of industrial carbon emissions.
By combining science, technology and environmental responsibility, ECO2 Magnesia proves that it is possible to achieve economic performance and environmental protection, paving the way for a future where industrial production is in harmony with the environment.
This collaboration is a model for multi stakeholder cooperation.
